New York, New York - Hamstring Speed in Mens Softball is what will keep a mens softball player on or off the field for the season. Your biceps femoris muscles, better known as your hamstrings are connected from your gluetes to the back of you knee, they are the biceps of the legs. The hamstrings serve many purposes when you start your movements. Since everything is connected from your neck down, there will be areas that you are weak and this will come into play when you begin your season.
It seems the older you get, the less your hamstrings want to cooperate in the games that you are playing. It does not help either that mens softball involves a lot of starting, stopping, sitting and standing around at times. This confuses the entire body, not just the hamstrings because you are bringing your body from one state and them another. Also, I always felt that you only get a specific amount of reps out of your hamstrings based upon the speed and strength that is required to play the field and run the bases.
As you begin another season, make sure that you make the time to warm up your body for your games. If your body is not warm, especially your hamstrings, you will be at greater risk of pulling a muscle. You want to make sure that you have a good sweat going into your games. This at very least will keep your muscles and body warm. I will posting specific stretches and exercises in this blog to give you some tools to help make this years softball season a success.
